“So, where are you taking me?”, if you’ve ever received a message like this and felt your heartbeat go just that little bit faster, don’t fret. Whether it’s for a first date or an anniversary, we’ve rounded up the moodiest, sexiest, and yummiest date night spots in Sydney. Now you have no excuse, you must text them back.
1. Piccolo Bar, Potts Point
Piccolo Bar might just be the Cross’s best kept secret. This little bar was established in the 1950s as a cafe and now operates as a warmly-illuminated bar serving ice cold martini’s and tin sardines. Sit immersed in the red-lit bar or people watch al fresco while the sun sets. A little tip, this one gets very busy, very fast, so time your visit wisely.
2. Bar Copains, Surry Hills
Copains might be French for friends, but tonight we hope for more. This recently hatted bar feels like an homage to Melbourne’s wine bar scene. If what you’re after is a flawless wine list and delicate little bites to share, this is your place. Oh, and if you tell anyone you’re going to Bar Copains, they’ll recommend the fish sandwich, so you should probably get that.
3. The Old Fitz, Woolloomooloo
Sometimes all a date night calls for is a jug of beer and some fries, and to me, that is sexy. The Old Fitz of course has this, but they also have a criminally good menu and wine list for a pub. So, beers and fries or oysters and Chablis - your choice. The Old Fitz is also the home to a charming theatre, so if you’re planning a visit soon, you must see what’s on.
4. Odd Culture, Newtown
The Odd Culture Group is coming up as one of Sydney’s most-loved hospitality groups (Without the controversy) so you’ll find about three of their venues on this list. Odd Culture Newtown is a rustic but chic restaurant and bar serving up plates ideal for sharing like Chicken Liver Pate and pickled veggies. Plus, it’s situated directly across from the Dendy Cinema, what a perfect little night.
5. Love, Tilly Devine
If you didn’t know about this bar, you would have absolutely no idea that it existed. It’s nestled down a quiet back-laneway in Darlinghurst/Woolloomooloo and luckily for them, foot traffic is no concern with bites and sips that good. It’s dark and moody and intimate, so it's perfect for your first, second, or 50th date. Plus, they do a banging dirty martini, if that’s your thing.
6. Pleasure Club, Newtown
Finally, if all else goes well, you might want to end your night with a boogie and a nightcap at the Pleasure Club. It’s a violet-coloured basement bar with live music, a space for a dance, a pool table, and a disco ball. It’s also the only spot on this list where you can dance! See you there.
Finally!! Great sydney picks
